Travel to Koh Phangan

Ko Pha Ngan featured promiently in Alex Garland's 1997 novel The Beach, and is also mentioned in the song Magick by the new rave band Klaxons' (but probably more as a reference to the 1997 novel The Beach than the island itself).

The infamous Full Moon Party, which often involves illegal drugs, occurs on Ko Pha Ngan every full moon of the month. Recently, though, steps have been taken to stop the drugs at these parties and make Ko Pha Ngan into a more family-friendly tourist destination.

Phuket FantaSea forms the main evening attraction at Kamala Beach, where Thai legends mix with pyrotechnics, acrobatics and elephants for an amazing spectacle and theatrical experience. Kamala's other options - small bars and local restaurants are low-key and relaxed. Not surprising as Patong's bright lights are just 10 minutes away phuket bar girls.

Koh Samui massage

Massage is a well respected tradition in Thailand and practised all over the country. Samui is no exception and massage services can be found in all the main tourist areas, as well as in the island’s many spas and hotels. Most trained Thai masseuses have fingers of steel that can smooth away even the most troublesome pains and stiffness. The koh samui massage places offer traditional Thai, oil and foot massage and are generally not the sleazy places often seen in parts of Bangkok. Thai massage is a complex art that has been passed down through generations. The techniques are still taught by Buddhist monks at the main school inside Wat Po in Bangkok. This form of massage focuses on re-aligning the energy in your body through ten main points, known in Thai as 'sen'. There are over 70,000 of these in all, and during your samui thai massage, your muscles are kneaded, pushed, pulled and stretched to put them back into place. The masseuse uses various techniques to apply pressure, using her knees, elbows and even feet as well as her hands. Thai massage actually includes aspects of yoga derived from ancient Ayurvedic practices. The most noticeable tool in a masseuse’s collection is the thumb, which sometimes feels as though it reaches inside the muscle. Due to the powerful nature of the massage, a well-trained Thai massage practitioner will avoid sensitive areas, so if you have ailments or chronic problems sensitive to body pressure, advise the masseuse before commencing samui massage parlours.

Koh Samui night life

From sophisticated gourmet restaurants to the famous full moon parties, Koh Samui has some of the best nightlife in Thailand. Discos, clubs, music venues, bar beers, classical Thai dancing, mud wrestling (yes) and even weekly Thai Lady boxing... Plus, a huge variety of excellent restaurants all over the island. Chaweng deserves its reputation as the place to party on Koh Samui night life. There is a huge range of venues to sample on a night out, everything from relaxed lounge bars to full-scale dance clubs. In the warm-up to a night on the town, a stroll along the main beach road offers ample choice of European style pubs and bars where you can while away the after-beach hours, grab a bite and a drink, watch world sport or just let the world go by. If you prefer to sit on the beach for a sundowner, any of the beachfront restaurants will happily serve drinks without dinner but as the night moves in, most of the action takes place in the bars and clubs around Soi Green Mango.
